lots of heat output and the very heavy lid makes for a very hot grill. exceptional heat retention due to the lid. with room temperature steaks, the grill takes only minutes to produce juicy, medium rare results; even in the winter.
relatively easy to clean grates and drip catchers. rotisserie works as advertised but it's hard for me to justify using it when I can buy rotisserie chickens from a nearby store.
I highly recommend this Vermont Castings grill. Yeah, it's now out of production but I assume the new ones are just as good (if more expensive).

I have purchased the discontinued VM448 model and love it. Great, even cooking. The food tastes amazing. I love the color and craftsmanship; it really stands out on our patio. The side burner is a great feature and so is the optional rotisserie. It was easy to assemble and is user-friendly. I highly recommend this BBQ!

I ordered this grill early in August 08, I finally received it on September 10, because of the poor service of the shipper that Amazon has to deliver it. I started the assembly and found that 8 bolts were missing, so rather than calling the company and waiting for them to send them, I went to the local hardware store and bought them. Later I was almost finished with the lower cabinet and found that one side panel was missing so I called the manufacture and got a recording saying that as of April they were bankrupt and in July they have closed all operations and do not support or provide any service to anything they have sold. So the only way to get service is if you have a dealer that can help. I could not find one withing 500 miles of me. Of course there is not warranties. I have spent the last two weeks calling Amazon to get it picked up. Their shipper has not been willing to even call me, to arrange a pick up time. Amazon gets very poor service from this company, and I am still hoping to get it out of my garage.
It seems to me that Amazon should have disclosed the bankrupt company it would have saved us both a lot of time and money.

Grill itself was well made, got 90% of grill put together and found out had missing pieces. Grill was sent back to Amazon and credit was given to my account.

First off, this is a great grill for the price. You will get a top-of-the-line product that has pleased us very much when it comes to grilling. Unfortunately, when assembling the grill, a few (minor and cosmetic) parts were missing from the packaging. I called customer service and they promised that the missing pieces would be shipped shortly... A month passed. I contacted them again and they said it was on its way... another month passed. When I called this morning, I got the recording that they had declared bankruptcy and the product is no longer covered under warranty. Translated, this means that I am stuck with what I have. Fortunately, the grill is operable as is. I suppose if critical pieces were missing from your order Amazon would credit your account, but keep this in mind when ordering. It is an excellent product and certain to last a long time, assuming all parts are included...
